WAR NOT OVER: Censors Ready To CLEAR Padmavati, Rajputs OPPOSE
Will Padmavati see the light of day? Rajputs are still sitting in the opposition despite the Censor Board having come forward to clear it!
So yesterday
afternoon, we brought you the story that the Censor Board wants
changes in Ghoomar song and the title of the film (Padmavat, not Padmavati).
In a report in
ETimes, Joshi admitted and elaborated: There are no cuts suggested in this
film by the CBFC - only 5 modifications. First, to change the disclaimer to one
that clearly does not claim historical accuracy. Second, the title is to be
changed from 'Padmavati' to 'Padmavat' - as the filmmakers have attributed
their creative source as the fictional poem Padmavat, and not history. Third,
there will be modifications in the song 'Ghoomar', to make the depiction
befitting to the character being portrayed. Fourth, modification to the
incorrect/misleading reference to historical places. And the fifth is the
addition of a disclaimer which clearly makes the point that the film in no
manner subscribes to the practice of Sati or seeks to glorify it.
So yeah, over to the latest development. The Rajput community has vehemently
opposed the release of Padmavati despite Censor Board offering to clear the
film if Bhansali carries out the cuts, err, modifications.
Arvind Singh Mewar, a scion of the Mewar royal family who ws a member of an
advisory panel constituted by the Censor Board to review Padmavati, which was
done on Thursday, has said
that all the three members of the committee had strongly objected to the
content portrayed in the film. "The film has real-life characters and
historic figures highly revered even today by the people, especially in Mewar.
What they want to show by such a movie is beyond my understanding. The movie
makers are neither with the Rajputs nor the Muslims, so where lies their
loyalty?" said Arvind Singh in a statement.
